Materials & Care
Treat your Auréa jewellery with a little care and it will keep its shine for years to come. Here's everything you need to know about what your pieces are made of — and how to look after them.
Our Materials
18ct Gold Plating
Our gold-plated pieces feature a generous layer of 18ct gold electroplated onto a hypoallergenic brass or sterling silver base. This gives you the depth and warmth of real gold at a fraction of the cost.
Sterling Silver (925)
Marked pieces are crafted from 92.5% pure sterling silver — durable, hypoallergenic, and beautifully tarnish-resistant with proper care.
Gemstones & Pearls
We use freshwater pearls, semi-precious gemstones, and lab-grown crystals selected for clarity and consistency. Each is ethically sourced and individually set by hand.
Caring for Your Pieces
Gold plating is durable, but it isn't indestructible. Follow these simple rules to keep your jewellery looking its best:
The Golden Rule: Last on, first off
Put your jewellery on after applying perfume, lotion, sunscreen, and hairspray — and take it off before showering, swimming, working out, or sleeping.
Avoid Contact With
- Water: chlorine, salt water, and even prolonged exposure to fresh water can dull the plating.
- Chemicals: perfume, hairspray, sunscreen, household cleaners, and chlorine all accelerate wear.
- Friction: avoid storing pieces loose together — they can scratch each other.
- Sweat: remove jewellery before workouts; salt accelerates tarnishing.
How to Clean
Use a soft, lint-free cloth (a microfibre or jewellery polishing cloth works perfectly) to gently buff your pieces after each wear. For deeper cleaning, soak in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild soap for no more than 30 seconds, then pat dry immediately with a soft cloth.
Never use: abrasive cleaners, toothbrushes, silver polish, or ultrasonic cleaners — these can strip the plating.
How to Store
Keep your jewellery in the original Auréa pouch or box, away from direct sunlight and humidity. For best results, store each piece separately to prevent scratches, and consider an anti-tarnish strip for long-term storage.
What's Normal vs What's Not
With regular wear, plating naturally softens over time — this is expected. If you notice rapid discolouration within a few weeks, contact us at hello@aurea.com with photos and we'll review under our warranty.
